Kneed For Speed

KneedForSpeed
A smart knee brace with built-in sensor that allows knee performance to track the range of motion, force data, recovery indicators, and injury risk. It is aimed at helping injured people to speed up recovery and prevent injuries.

KneedForSpeed has projected a total start-up cost of $91,045.04 AUD to initiate the business while maintaining the running costs at the same time. In terms of fixed costs, the key investment would be the software for computers to store data and adjust our physical product, which is software development at the cost of $3,317 AUD; followed by the rental, where we rent an office for technicians and workers to implement the chip for prototyping and testing the product. In terms of variable costs, the most spent of our capital would be the inventory as the product depends on customers’ demand, where the materials cost is $45.46 AUD to build one smart knee brace. Other than the fixed and variable costs, an extra 10% of the contingency fee is predicted for the cost of emergencies and other incidents.

Revenue model:
The major income comes from the sales of knee braces, which is a B2C (Business-to-Customer) channel. The selling price is positioned at $599 AUD, whereas a medium price range in the smart knee brace market can also cover the cost of salaries, inventory, rents, and more.

Other than selling the physical product, additional revenue streams will be generated through a B2B (Business-to-Business) channel. In terms of the subscription revenue model, we intend to sell collected biomechanical data and performance analysis to health institutions for industry studies at the price of $20,000 AUD annually. The reason for this act is that not only do we monetize the data to mitigate potential risk but also maximize the profit in creating additional income. Additionally, an advertising fee of $500 AUD is charged monthly to related industries such as physiotherapists and orthopedists, as they share a similar target audience in the first year, possibly charging more in the future. With these two extra incomes, $26,000 AUD in gains can be projected each year.

Overall:
KneedForSpeed sells smart knee braces that provide statistical knee performance to users in aid of recovery progress. A high start-up cost is estimated mainly due to the resources needed in the phase of development and prototyping. As time passes, non-recurring costs will be reduced as most parts are done in the first 2 years, resulting in a lower cost in coming years. On the other hand, revenue gains from sales, subscriptions, and advertising channels would be increased due to the demands from the target audience. With a significant increase in net profit, more resources can be applied in terms of staff benefits, software upgrades such as user interface, as well as a better refinement of the product. In conclusion, this report has created a positive financial outlook for KneedForSpeed’s investors where the ROI is high, furthermore, extra resources can be withdrawn from profits to contribute to health industry in connection with the revolution of knee injury prevention and recovery, as well as telehealth integration where people can remotely monitor health.

Enlighten Within

This is a project that consists of 3 key components, the dance, the touch capacitive LED cup, and the LED painting.

The dance is a performance about mental health, identity, and internal agency where it tells a story through embodied technology and responsive visuals.

The touch capacitive LED cup is the embodied technology for this performance. The Arduino module was used in this project to embed the touch sensor technology into the LED cup, where we plan to insert a plant (act as a living thing) into the cup to stick with the theme and meaning of this project.

The LED painting is the final piece of artefact that we are going to showcase in the exhibition to audience. It is an abstract picture that contains the meaning of isolation, embracing, healing, and enlightened, which is the phases of the story.

Song Writing

A song that was written and inspired by a friend’s break up in 2022. A mix of photo and lyrics that was taken and composed by me, to portray the message of pain in this song.

This song expresses the deep pain of heartbreak and lasting love after a breakup. Struggling with loneliness and memories of someone who has moved on while they remain emotionally stuck. By reflecting on past moments, unable to let go, haunted by dreams and memories that keep the lost relationship alive. Despite knowing it’s over, the heart still clings to what once was — portraying grief, devotion, and the struggle to heal.
